MY FAVORITE THINGS
In the Spring of 2018, my friend, Marlene mentioned that she was planning to take a trip with her daughter and son-in-law, and several of her son-in-law’s family members to the Czech Republic. Marlene’s ancestors are from that region. It sounded like a marvelous trip for her.
A few months later, Marlene asked if I would be interested in joining. Czech Republic was not at the top of the list of the countries I wanted to visit in Europe. She mentioned that they were also going to be traveling to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein – now she’s talking my language! I asked her to send me the itinerary. It didn’t take me long to decide: I really want to go on this trip!
I knew, though, that if I was going to get that close, I would want to extend my trip to spend some time with my former exchange student from Austria. I checked with the trip organizer, Dick, and he said that wouldn’t be a problem and that the travel agent he uses could modify the return arrangements for me.
Great! I’m in! Marlene had invited our friend, Barbara, too – and she was also interested. Barbara and I would be rooming together.
